Poppy had just arrived home from what had been an eventful run. Normally she ran then came home. But today she had met someone, someone who was now her friend. It made her very happy to finally have someone other than family to talk to even if she did have to hide it from them. Poppy loved her family very much but she often found them hard to be around all the time, the reason she often went out running and exploring her new surroundings. She could see why her father had chosen to come to Forks, it was lovely here, just a little wet, not that she minded.
Poppy made her way upstairs removing her red winter coat and boots, they had to keep up appearances after all. "Hello, is anyone at home?" she called out into the vast space. She waited a few seconds before calling out once more before making her way to sit down on the large sofa and putting on the television that was fixed upon the wall. She didn't particularly want to watch anything but hate how quiet it was at home when no one was around. Normally there would be noise going from somewhere.

Andrew walked through the door, reaching up to wipe his mouth with his sleeve as he closed it behind him. He knew there was probably no evidence of his little snack upon his lips as there were in his blood red eyes, but it was almost out of instinct to just make sure. He turned around, surprised to hear noise in the house; he had expected everyone to be out. Narrowing his eyes, he wondered who it was, but as soon as his nose caught the scent, he smiled realizing it was Poppy. Someone he considered family...a daughter. She, and the rest of his coven, was his life. And he would do anything for them, but for others, he didn’t care for unless he had something to gain.
“Hey,” he spoke, walking into the room. His eyes flashed to the TV, but having no interest in what was showing, he walked over to the table and started to take off his jacket which had a few drops of rain on, as his hair did “How was your run?” he asked, his eyes still focused on his jacket as he pulled his arms free from the sleeves, running a hand through his wet hair before he turned his gaze to Poppy on the sofa.

Poppy sat upright as she heard the front door open and close. As she listened to the footsteps get closer to her, her nose filled of a familiar smell, it was the man she considered her father, Andrew. Andrew and his wife, Maddison had adopted her as their daughter a fair few years before hand. She was so grateful to them, they saved her from a life filled with loneliness.
Poppy smiled as her father entered the room, "Hey" she replied to him. She watched as his eyes darted to the television with no interest at all. "My run was fine" she shifted, she hoped he couldn't tell she was keeping something from him. She really didn't want to upset him, she loved him. "Same old, same old" she added casually. "How has your day been" she asked truly interested in her father's day, "Did you do much?".

Andrew’s lips twisted into a little smile at his daughter’s words and he, in one swift motion, placed the jacket to hang over the back of the chair. The vampire kept listening to her words as his thoughts raced. “Same old, same old” And what exactly was that? He turned his eyes to her, the smile not faltering but his eyes turned suspicious...dangerous, even. They were in Forks for a while now, but he wouldn’t say they were there long enough to have a routine. So the vampire figured his daughter must have developed one earlier this time. Perhaps she liked this little town more than he thought.
So he shrugged it off and placed his palm onto the flat surface of the table, half leaning against it as his red eyes flashed between her and the TV “Well, can’t exactly say ‘same old, same old’, but...” His eyes softened and so did his smile, almost as if they turned playful “Same old, same old.” His lips broke into a grin and he pushed himself away from the table, walking towards the sofa and taking a seat beside Poppy, shifting to face her “Met anyone new today?” he asked, merely because he had interest in his daughter's life. But for some reason he just didn’t trust this town as much as he did the first day they moved here. Therefore he liked to keep track on who his family interacts with...for safety, of course.

Poppy watched her adopted father as he removed his jacket and put it over the back of the chair in front of him. She smiled to herself as her father admitted that he had been up to the same old same old. She let the smile fade from her face, she had a fair idea of what her father had been up to. She knew he had to do what he did but she just wished he didn't get so much enjoyment from it.
Poppy moved slightly to angle her body at her father as he sat down next to her. "Met anyone new today" her father asked her. She was a little startled at this question. "Of course, of course I didn't" she exclaimed, "Just ran then swam for a little while". She wondered if something she had done gave it away, gave away the secret of the girl she had met in the forest earlier today, the girl she now considered a friend. She hated having to keep a secret from her family but it was the only way.

They were vampires. And in Andrew’s eyes vampires need human blood to survive. Of course there were other ways, and Andrew knew all too well about them. But he didn’t believe in them, they weren’t right...in his mind it was just wrong. Since the day he left the Volturi, left because of Carlisle, he half swore to himself that he would keep away from that lifestyle as far as he could. So yes, he and Maddison agreed to keep this from Poppy and the rest...well, Maddison wasn’t all for keeping it from them, but then again she didn’t know everything.
Andrew told her what she needed to know. Sure, he told her more than necessary sometimes, because well, she ishis other half. Though some things had to remain secret...some things involving his past, Carlisle, the Volturi and a few other vampires. Oh, and let’s not forget the Werewolves, Shifters and Hybrids. There are so many things out there, and being a part of the Volturi for a century taught a vampire a thing or two. But one thing he could never understand, much less tolerate, was the ‘vegetarian’ lifestyle. Oh no. Andrew enjoyed the hunt and the taste of human blood far too much.
He sat silent for a second, blood red eyes giving his daughter a one-over before he inhaled deeply with his nose. She had a scent to her. Something, or someone, he didn’t recognize. He narrowed his eyes, the faint smile that was tugging at the corner of his lip faltering into a small frown as his thoughts began to connect a million dots “Mh...” he hummed out between shut lips, turning his eyes to the floor before turning his head to the side “was your sister or brother with you?” he asked, shifting slightly as his eyes returned to meet hers.

Poppy looked her adoptive father right in the eye, "No, just me" she answered, "Haven't seen Thalia and Thomas for a while". From the way he was acting Poppy could tell that he didn't believe a word she had told him and this terrified her. What would he do if he figured out the truth about Luna being her friend and more importantly that she was a shifter and a Cullen. She was sure this would be the main thing her father would have a problem with. He never had a good word to say about Carlise Cullen and his family.
Deciding to try and change the subject, Poppy switched off the TV and stood up and faced her father. "Have you seen Thalia actually?" she asked, she just wanted to talk to her sister, her best friend. She needed to ask for her advice and ask her what she should do about Luna and the fact her father might know that she was keeping something from him.

Andrew watched Poppy like she was under a microscope. Paying attention to her every move to try and see if there’s anything beneath her words. Something she’s trying to hide. If Andrew could see himself deducing others like he was doing right now, he would roll his eyes and shake his head at himself. To observe and see past false words and actions was a little something the Volturi made sure he perfected. He didn’t even realize when he stuck his nose in where it wasn’t wanted, and he most definitely didn’t like it when he did it with his own family.
Poppy he always had a soft spot for. She and the rest of his family will always be his weakness. So the vampire forced himself to look away, to push all those silly suspicions out of his mind. Truth was he was ashamed for doubting his daughter just because she smelled a little different.
She turned the TV off and his eyes flashed back to Poppy, this time they were softer...calmer. He sat silent for a moment as his thoughts tried to pin where Thomas and the rest could be “For once,” he began and shrugged “I don’t know.” A second passed and he turned his eyes away to the floor “They probably went hunting somewhere else. Though I won’t be surprised if your sister dragged poor Thomas into going shopping with her.” A small smile formed on his lips and he turned his head to face his daughter again.

Poppy could feel her adoptive fathers eyes watch her every move, like he was watching her using a microscope. This made her feel even more nervous about the secret she had. She felt guilty, the last thing she wanted was to lie to her family, especially her father, he had been her rock all her vampire life after all. She doubted that she's survived the whole process of learning to live as vampire.
Poppy forced a giggle as her father mentioned the possibility of Thalia and Thomas out shopping. If there was one thing Thomas hated it was shopping but being so in love he always failed when it came to saying no to Thalia. "I doubt he'd be enjoying himself" she grinned.
Turning to face her father Poppy, looked at him as he looked at her, "So you got any plans for this evening?" she asked after what felt like ages but in reality was probably only a few seconds.
