It had been more than six years ago that she had met Edward Cullen. He had been the center of her universe, and she had loved him fiercely. Meeting him, although he was a bit standoffish at first only made her want to get to know him more. When he had finally introduced her to his family, she was excited. Carlisle, a doctor, Esme, the homemaker, they appeared to be just like any other parents. Loving and kind toward their children, despite that each of them were ‘cursed to live an eternal life’ as Edward had put it. But they were a family nonetheless. Meeting his siblings, Alice, Jasper, Emmett and Rosalie, it became even more real and even more dangerous.
Rosalie had instinctively been right about alot of things. The two hadn’t gotten along, and she had no idea why, if it was just because she wanted something that Rosalie wouldn’t have chosen for herself or if it was something else. The others, were easier to get along with than Rosalie was. They’d known it was a risk but accepted her anyway. Rosalie, however, had been a bit more difficult. It took time for her to even understand Edward’s blonde sister. Rosalie had been the one who had been resistant to helping her when James was after her, and had argued with her family over it.
The day of the wedding was no different. What should have been a glorious day turned into a nightmare. Her nerves had gotten the best of her and before anything good could come of it, she felt herself pulling away and running as far and as fast as she could. Leaving everyone—Esme, Carlisle, Emmett, Alice, Rosalie, Jasper and especially Edward behind. There was not a moment where she did not hesitate for a second to think of them. Knowing how they’d react to her hurting Edward was more than enough of a reason to stay away. Which is why she had left town after the scene at the wedding.
She knew why Rosalie disliked her, disliked the choices that she was making. She could recall Rosalie telling her the story—of how she got turned into a vampire. And it wasn’t a pleasant one. It wasn’t one she would have wanted for herself. But it had made her smile when she said she was a bit theatrical back then, not that she could be blamed.
Today she was walking around the woods, not far from the home where the Cullens had lived when she had known them. She was sure that they still lived there. Despite the fact she had betrayed Edward, and hurt him...she’d never betray their secret of what they were. Taking a deep breath, she could see the blonde in the distance. She knew that Rosalie would have smelled her by now, as Rosalie could easily smell her a mile away.
She waited to see if Rosalie would say something. Perhaps tell her to get away, to leave and never come back. She was certain the others would have her die, or at least disappear into the shadows, never to be seen again. At least that was what she would expect for them to react. No matter how friendly most of them had been, she wouldn’t blame them if they felt that way now. She deserved that in her oppinon.
